This Birdy has to admit, a quick wardrobe change and easy choices are the new thing for me, when trying to get out the door. I love complex layering and thinking of new, interesting ways to pair pieces, but lately I find myself relying on the one piece wonder: the dress.
Well, did you survive the Thanksgiving-Black Friday-Cyber Monday-holiday? There's no escaping the fact that it's official: the Holidays Are Here. *dramatic music* But that doesn't mean you have to go into a hyper-holiday festive fit. How about giving yourself (and maybe a friend) a nice afternoon at the museum, looking at beautiful gowns, and zero pressure to shop, since... well, it's art, you just enjoy it.
Tis the Season for Fall Trends in Bloom! Although the Birdy admits she's still in a summery mood. I'm pleased to see it's not a hairpin-turn for dramatically different autumn styles. There's quite a few things that with a few modifications, could go from summer to fall. These three in particular were ones I liked: bold but simple cat-eye eyeliner paired with a bright lip color, strappy metallic heels (closed toe for fall), and rocking the maxi dress with a fitted jacket.
I saw these while flipping through the pleasantly plump fall issues of fashion magazines gracing, er, weighing down the magazine stands. While there's no drastic upturn in the economy, I'm glad to see the thickness of magazines has returned. Emaciated periodicals, begone! And these are the easy-breezy, style-simple ideas swimming in my head for the upcoming months of holiday get-togethers and a winter wedding for a friend. Because who wants to fuss when there's a party to be had?

Gone are the days when "floral print" meant an overly-prim tea dress, or something Holly Hobby would wear on the prairie, bonnet included. Call it a case of Spring Fever, but this Birdie felt the Mood of the floral trend. I'm glad it continues with designers reinventing these bloomin' lovelies in more modern and easily wearable ways.
It can still be ladylike for a guest at a spring wedding, but it can also be bold and structured for the corporate world. Floral patterns can make it on casual pieces, feeling breezy and fun. And even when the sun goes down, florals can remain chic and sultry for a nocturnal setting. Who would have thought all these options could be in your garden-variety wardrobe?

This Bird's been doing more virtual window shopping, this time getting in the Mood for a new dress. It's a combination of the changing of the seasons and the Macys gift card from the Jaunty Mama burning a hole in this Birdy's pocket. I don't get the chance to shop as much anymore, so this feels like an extra special treat, so I'm going for what I love best, the flirty joy of a new dress!
