Are you ready for the spooktacular holiday that is HALLOWEEN?! I admit, my costume preparation is sorely lacking, as in I don't have one, but in honor of All Hallow's Eve, I do want to share some badass bling that this Birdy is now happily rocking on her Social Finger. Fancy this, Magpie Darlings: the armor ring.
Is it possible to wear your heart on your sleeve (or anywhere else) all year round? As you know, Valentine's Day is this week, although we've been inundated with heart-shaped Everything since January. Is there a way to celebrate the love without everything looking like a heart-shaped mess? The Magpie is here to save the day with some sweet, smart heart-themed jewelry that makes you feel like a Valentine 365 days a year.
I should call this post, What I Did Over the Holiday Break. You know how those home projects go, the ones that languish on your "to-do" list for a nuclear half-life -- I'm glad to say I got one major thing crossed off our list: Figuring Out What to do With a Blank Bedroom Wall. The solution? Wall decals.
Thanksgiving not only means a time for food and friends, it also holds the tradition of being the wave of a checkered flag for the holiday shopping season to begin -- not that it's stopping any retailers from starting early. This Bird caught sight of Santa at the malls already! The holiday gift-giving fever hasn't put me in a mallrat panic quite yet, but I have been perusing the virtual shopping mall of Etsy recently. I discovered new amazing artists, as well as a return visit to some favorites that I've purchased items from in the past. While I've been known to do a crafty thing now and then, it's been fun to explore the wide selection of artistic visions, which brought on a lovely Mood of fanciful birds, both art and artists, whose creativity truly takes flight in these distinctive pieces: {1} Centerville, original map painting by Rachel Austin (a Pacific NW local artist!) {2} Pendant with vintage print of partridge on one side and pressed flowers on other, by Enchanted Glass (another Pacific NW artist!) {3} Limited Edition 2010 calendar with original artwork by Creative Thursday {4} Garden Gate locket by M Stevenson Designs {5} Chicken and Rooster trio glass magnets by CrowBiz {6} Sybil, square print by Janet Hill Studio {7} REPOSE nesting dolls by BelleslettresConsider the gift of a unique, handcrafted creation versus something from a factory for this holiday season -- the recipient will treasure it that much more, knowing you took the time to find something truly one-of-a-kind. If you live in or around the Seattle area, I Heart Indie Holidays, a craft show featuring dozens of local artists, will be taking place on Sunday November 29, in Kirkland, at the Lake Street Bar from 11am to 6pm. This sounds like a pretty fantastic opportunity to get some holiday shopping done!
The Magpie has flown the coop and taken a jaunt to the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) this weekend, in support of her game-playing/making Better Half, and the whole Runic Games team. In celebration of the Power of Geek, this nerdy birdy wishes to share her j'adoration of artist, Joanna Mulder, and her site, Joannarchy, as well as her recently-opened Etsy shop. Her gorgeous renderings make naughty catwomen purr for a saucer of milk and she's got t-shirts to inspire Wookies everywhere to run out and join the circus. Her website is full of amazing art, and the store offers nerd gear that appeals to the most discerning Trekker, looking for the latest accoutrements. Live long and prosper, Joannarchy, and thanks to all the cool people I met at PAX this weekend!
